A novel new treatment for Bipolar Depression:

Seroquel-XR (Quetiapine fumarate)

My experience with this drug has been favorable. I am not an agent for AstraZeneca . I have not been paid, and I am not getting any kickbacks. This is for informational purpose only.

1. This is a novel, new agent which has a decreased number of side-effects.
2. It can be used as monotherapy  (one drug)  for Bipolar Depression.
3. This drug can be given at night and should last all day (24 hours).
4. Although none of my patients have gained weight, it is a possibility (1-3 kg).
5. This drug also has a new indication for adjunctive therapy for Major Depression.
6. Although Seroquel XR is not cheap, it is a very good treatment.
7. Please talk to your physician before taking any new leap of faith with a medication change.
