Mel Gibson: What is a Nigger?

It is amazing how when we were supporting Lethal Weapon 1,2 and any other Mel Gibson flick, we where patrons or fans. Now we have “all of a sudden” become Niggers.  It depresses me to know that we are not further along in race-relations than we are today. I would love to have a face-to-face with Mel to ask him if Danny Glover is also a Nigger? When I heard of his racist rant last night, I became a little perturbed. His behavior is unacceptable. I was  not going to write on this holiday eve, but this issue must be addressed. I am sick and tired of racist people getting away with murder. Yes, the murder of another race.  Now just for a refresher, several weeks ago, Mr.Gibson was racist ranting on the Jews. This was also unacceptable.

Just for recall, Mr.Gibson inferred that because his ex- girlfriend, was dressed  a particular way, she could be “raped by a pack of Niggers.” The relationship between the two of them is over, what is his problem!   His  remarks were both racist and sexist.  There has to be an underlying depression in this guy. If you want to hear more of his rant go to RadarOnline.com or TMZ.

Now, something very surprising happened to me this morning. I found out that Nigger is a word and is defined in Wikipedia. I was amazed but I must publish this  working definition….

Nigger

  • a noun
  • usuage in a pejorative context to refer to Black People
  • also an informal slang term
  • a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun negro
  • (negro-means the color “black people”)
  • a racial insult
  • However can be a term of endearment, when used appropriately  within the culture of Black People. (Dr.O’s addition)

Call to Action:

  • No more Mel Gibson Movies (period)
  • No more Mel Gibson video, DVDs, etc.
  • Official resignation from the Mel Gibson Fan Club. (lol)
  • An evaluation for depression, anxiety and or substance abuse.
  • We send Mel Gibson and invitation to the next BET awards and allow him to speak!

If you agree with my call to action, or have other recommendations that should be included on this list, SOUND OFF and leave a comment. I am going to make sure that this blog circulates within the right circles. Finally,to Mr. Mel GIbson, I may be Black and you might even refer to me as a Nigger, but I am competent, I have class and I respect ALL colors and types of people.

Yes, Mel was wrong to make that statement. I don’t get why it’s such a big deal. As the good doctor stated, he has already broken up with the woman.

My greater concern is why the assumtion is that Black people supported the Lethal Weapon series because of Mel Gibson? Is not Mr. Danny Glover one of the greatest actors in the history of Hollywood (regardless of race)??? When I see his name on a list of credits, I get ready to go. It doesn’t matter who else is in the film. Has it been considered that maybe Mel became comfortable with his use of “the N word” as a product of his association with Mr. Glover, who I am sure would use the term affectionately within his social circles. Besides, I seriously doubt that any of the Black readers of this site have never referred to members of another race in derogatory terms. It does not make one a racist just because one uses what may be perceived as a racist terminology.

WHERE was this woman when the statement was made? Was she in Harlem or on the South side of Chicago – where the statement would fit the environment? I doubt he would have said it if she was in Beverly Hills or Long Island.

Again, I have to ask why anyone would care ? Why is one drunk, like Mel Gibson, being given the power to “murder” the entire Black race? He’s obviously a jerk and does not deserve this much attention.

I agree with what you are saying! Danny Glover pulled in a lot of black viewers and may have given Mel Gibson a bit of credibility in the black community because of their on screen chemistry. The bottom line is that Mel Gibson is a great actor, and hopefully we can ALL appreciate talent in any color it comes in. This is why people from all walks of life became his fans. At the end of the day there is no denying that he is good at what he does. However, while his talent for acting can be acknowledged, can it be RESPECTED? Especially if that is the type of person it is coming from?? Every true professional needs to have to respect to support their position, no matter what their profession may be. How can anybody respect Mel Gibson after he has clearly DISRESPECTED an entire race of people… TWICE!!??

  • nupeskolar3

I agree. Far to long people say these stupid racist statements or rants, then they issue a apology and we let it slip into a blackhole. I for one can forgive but its hard to forget. Hopefully he has saved enough money cuz his career is over. No statement issued yet cuz there is nothing he can say!

    • admin

@Nupeskolar I totally agree. He continues to make public blunders and enough is enough.

  • Ramon

Hurray for mel for saying what he truly feels. Enough of this disgusting political correctness bullshit. If you’re angry, let it out!!!!

    • admin

@Ramon remember those words the next time you are offended!

  • http://www.rhondarealtor.net Rhonda

Mel Gibson is mentally ill. He needs immediate treatment, and people need to remember that he’s sick instead of thinking about what a big celebrity he is when hearing this horrible comment he made. I wouldn’t watch one of his movies now if they were passing them out on a street corner, but I also hope he gets the help he needs.

@Rhonda. Right On and I feel you!

it’s no differenc when we support tommy hilf, liz clayborn, michael kor, etc. They have been 4comn on their opinions about black, if we r goin 2 point out thing, we should do it as a whole. Its no differn when we use the word nigger n our race, but hav a problem when other races said it. We need 2 stop pickn & choosen whic time we let it offends us. We listen 2 it with music, look @ the money bein made off of it? Ok, Mel voic his opinion now what?

    • admin

@Angel. Welcome to the blog. Your points are well taken. Do you think that a lot of African-Americans still support those designers who are known racist?

  • Essdie

Mel’s recent history only complements his distant history…see what a Jew has to say about him at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/18/opinion/18rich.html

Dr. O, you and this guy should team up!

  • Aero Engineer

I believe Mel Gibson is have some type of psychotic episode. As stated in a different article, a nervous breakdown is the result of a mental disorder. I think Mr. Gibson is suffering and needs assistance. His actions have been “extreme” for awhile. As is the case for most of Hollywood’s occupants, no one bothers to lend assistance to find the real answers. In most cases, the answer is more drugs, sex, liquor, money, gambling, partying, etc…etc….etc.

    • admin

@Aero Engineer I just think Mel Gibson is speaking from his heart. Don’t you agree?

  • brooklynkid1180

First of all, I am sorry that Mel felt that way. I am not appalled at this information, and feel it should not be aired. Remember when Dog, the bounty hunter, made some remarks to his son in private….. This is not our business people.

Why can’t we just be real about race relations? We are not real and it will not be undone this way. Do we not call white people red necks, trailer trash, crackers, saltines, etc……. On tv, your top comedians are saying (DL Hughley) white people do this, etc.

Is it not true our race encompasses alot of what they mock us about? What hurts our feelings? The truth hurts.

Then the real question is why do we continue to have the highest rate of inmates, teenage pregnancies, lowest school scores, dropouts.- Not the fact that Mel had an outburst…….
If I do not think of myself as a nigger, then he surely is not speaking about me……and could use what ever slang made him happy.

    • admin

@Brooklynkid1180. Not sure that I understand the gist of your comments. Are you saying you support Mel Gibson’s behavior? Please advise.

  • brooklynkid1180

No way do I support Mel, but he was squawking at his girlfriend, none of the public’s business. Dog was arguing with his son. They are free to feel that way. It was private conversation…..The media should not air this to make it an issue.

We all call some race something. Like I mentioned before, have you not said, trailer trash, poor white trash, red neck, cracker, etc. It was a private conversation betw you and whoever…..right.

I am saying that we as Americans should be for REAL. Remember in Obama’s speech, after the Rev. Wright escapade…..We use terms in our barber shops, and places where we don’t think we can be heard. How he cringed when his grandmother made comments about black men she was afraid of. Every last one of us do it.

My message is: don’t let these terms hold true to us…. (Blacks)
When we change our condition, the terms will not hurt us.

That is why I question……why do we hold the highest rate of males in prison? How long are we going to accept/use the excuse of not having a father in our lives as the reason for ..high teenage pregnancy, crime rates, drop out rates?

People died trying to learn how to read. There is so much education and prevention out there to prevent pregnancy. There is nothing positive going on during school hours that should take you away from school.

Those three examples and the things that go with them make me wonder Jail – drugs, guns. murder, death/ education – unemployment, low wages,……etc., etc.,

I once heard an old distinguished white guy that wrote a paper that earned a grant for a group I was worked with. This group was doing a study on how to get people off the “rolls”. Welfare, SSI, etc. It was during the Clinton’s administration, and watched closely by the White House. They picked Richmond, VA, Seattle, Washington and 3 other states. Anyway, in a meeting the old man said what do you expect, they are only eligible for the 3F’s Food, Filth and Fetch.

I was the only black person there, I was floored, but as you look around you. Look at the positions we hold. When you see an Asian, he is a doctor,…..not the orderly, CNA, or working in the lunchroom at the hospital.

We have made great strides, I do not want to overlook them, but we came here in 1619, before the Pilgrims………….
We should make better choices,……..then when Nigger is used, we would not be hurt, because that term would not be us.

      @brooklynkid1180: Just Remember Institutional Racism!

  • brooklynkid1180

To me institutional, or what ever you want to call it.

Our Behavior patterns have got to stop…….Instead of complaining that we don’t have father figures for example Institutional.

Have you ever seen a white teacher in elementary school teach her classroom with black kids? I was very involved in my daughters early years and noticed. The white teachers do not know what to do. Depending on their nature…..they will take to the student and try to help or send him to the office…..put him in the corner more often. White women are still afraid of blacks…… now that is institutional.

But what do we do when the teacher sends notes, complain about behavior…..When my baby started that in school….2nd grade. I nipped it in the bud. I ran across a couple of teachers that were racist……But my child did her homework every nite. Had all her materials and yes institutional ,the teachers don’t give the “extra” when you are black. Do we make sure that the kid passes. Read, do any workbooks or historical trips with our kids when we go to Philly and DC?….Do we not tell them of our adventures and experiences we shared at their age.

Can We not take “more time” to raise our kids, it will not happen overnight…But we should pay attention. All these things, nutrition……etc we have talked about can be changed if we put in some effort. Not money.

@brooklynkid1180 I love your passion, but I am not sure that we are on different pages. As a matter-of-fact, I am sure we are on the same page. What I got out of your comments is that we must vigorously take responsibility to consciously attack institutional racism. It appears that your daughter’s school may have had a little something-something going on. I applaud you for the way you handled what could have been a disaster. Yes brother, we do take those historical trips when we visit D.C. and Philly. However, don’t forget Atlanta, the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement. (I am sure I will get some comments on this one)

Mel Gibson has the same right to speak his mind as you all do to go out in packs and droves and vote your man, Mr. Obama, into the Presidency.

Well, then again there’s nothing wrong with “speaking your heart” as you call it, anyways, right, Admin? Even if it has no logical basis at all and is all emotion-based and heartfelt… after all that’s why God gave you a brain to use.

As for the evidence for the support of Obama’s stimulus package…. waiting….. waiting…… waiting….. waiting…… maybe in year 2050 we’ll finally know if all of the spending that he did will work! ;-) And no of course I did not vote for him. Hope & Change. That’s about damn right. “False” Hope & “Loose” Change.

“To be a fool is to have to wool pulled over your eyes by Democrats.” John F. Kennedy (D) voted against civil rights in 1957. Read, people, read. Stop just sucking up Democrat hook, line, and sinker without researching how they have treated you in the past. I don’t trust anybody, regardless of color. I trust someone about as far as I can throw them.

    • AskDrO

@John Jones I love it, By the way are you inferring that I am a Democrat? Please check the records. I agree with you whole-heartedly on some points, except we will have to diverge when it comes to Mel Gibson’s choice of words. However, keep that fire and passion burning.Look forward to hearing from you again on this BLOG.
