As a parent, how would you feel if your thirteen year old daughter was given the oral contraceptive, Plan B through her school? According to healthland.time, New York City schools have been quitely distributing free prescription contraceptives and birth control pills including the morning after pill Plan B.

Healthland.time reported that the program CATCH, (Connecting Adolescents to Comprehensive Healthcare) was designed for schools with high teen pregnancy rates and low incomes in addition to those areas that lacked a sufficient amount of healthcare services. Parents were given the option to decline their child participating but only one to two percent have chosen to do so.

Contraception is one of many controversial topics and teen pregnancy can be prevented. However, is it the school system’s responsibility to try and contain the problem? Should this program become a national one?
